What all goes into planning for a wedding? Part one
I can not speak for every photographer, but for me it starts with booking as early as possible. That way I can have as much time to get ready as possible. So do not underestimate the time you have. Six months is not a lot of time. Us photographers have so much to do.
Then it is time for the first meeting with the couple. During this meeting, I will discuss many things with my couple. First of which is prices and expectations. Always be VERY clear about this. The last thing you want is a couple that gets sticker shock when they get their invoice. Also I will ask a bunch of questions. Like who the vendors are and what everyone would be wearing. Asking these questions now helps a great deal. As some of you know, when planning a wedding. Things start to move very quickly. Leaving this first meeting. I can then visit the vendors and the venue. When visiting the vendors. I make sure to get all of their contact info as well. You never know when you might need to get in touch with someone. I will also leave the couple with a blank shot list. That way over the next couple of weeks. They will be able to fill that list up with some photographs that they would like other than the typical wedding photographs.
If possible I will also go to the venue a couple of times. Preferably at about the same time the wedding will be. I do this for a couple of reasons. The first is to know where the venue is if I have not been there before. Second is to see what the place looks like. I will also take my camera along for the ride. Now is the time to practice and see where my angles are. This will be valuable on the day of the wedding. See where you want to take the portraits after the wedding see what the lighting is going to be at the time of the wedding. Planning these shots can make or break the entire event.
